Fill the water reservoir with cold water up to the MAX indication. Never pour any liquid in the water reservoir other than plain water.  MIN: Minimum amount of water required to brew one cup of SENSEO® black coffee.  MIN: Minimum amount of water required to brew two cups of SENSEO® black coffee. Place the water reservoir back onto the machine. Turn on the appliance. Open the lid. Place the appropriate podholder in the machine and place the SENSEO® coffee pod(s) properly in the centre of the pod holder, with the convex side pointing downwards. Use 1 coffee pod in combination with the 1-cup pod holder and the 1-cup button if you want to make one cup of SENSEO® black coffee. Use 2 coffee pods in combination with the deeper 2-cup pod holder and the 2-cup button if you want to make two cups of SENSEO® black coffee. Close the lid and lock the lever. Select the black coffee button Ê to brew SENSEO® black coffee. Select to make a small Î, medium Ô or large Û cup. Place one or two cups under the spout. Turn the knob to adjust the height of the drip tray so your cup(s) perfectly fit underneath the spout. Make sure you use the right size cup for the drink you are making, so that the coffee does not become cold too quickly. Use a 100ml cup when you brew a small amount of black coffee Î. Use a 150ml cup when you brew a medium amount of black coffee Ô. Use a 170ml cup when you brew a large amount of black coffee Û. To keep your coffee hot longer, preheat your cups with hot water. Press the 1-cup button  to brew one cup of coffee. Press the 2-cup button  to brew 2 cups of coffee. If there is not enough water for brewing 2 cups of SENSEO® black coffee or if you have selected a coffee variety with milk, the light ring around the 2-cup button is off and this button cannot be operated. Enjoy! Remove the coffee pod(s) after use. Be careful when you do this, as there may still be some hot water/coffee on the coffee pod(s).

Select the latte macchiato button Ï to brew latte macchiato. Select the caffè latte button Ë to brew caffè latte. Place a cup under the spout. Turn the knob to adjust the height of the drip tray so your cup perfectly fits underneath the spout. Make sure you use the right size cup for the drink you are making, so that the coffee does not become cold too quickly. Use a 180ml cup when you brew cappuccino Ä. Use a 260ml cup when you brew latte macchiato Ï. Use a 220ml cup when you brew caffè latte Ë. To keep your coffee hot longer, preheat your cup with hot water. Press the 1-cup button  to brew one cup. You cannot brew two cups of cappuccino, latte macchiato or caffè latte at the same time. If you have selected a coffee variety with milk, the light ring around the 2-cup button is off and this button cannot be operated. Enjoy! Remove the coffee pod after use. Be careful when you do this, for there may still be some hot water/coffee on the coffee pod. Flush the milk container after you have brewed a cappuccino, latte macchiato or caffè latte. See the demonstration on ‘Cleaning’ for more helpful instructions!
For a hygienic and reliable milk container unit, please follow these cleaning instructions: Flush the milk container unit immediately after use when you do not intend to froth milk again straightaway. Clean the milk container unit thoroughly after the last use of the day. After each use the clean indicator flashes to remind you to flush the milk container. Remove the milk container from the machine by lifting the lever. Remove the milk container lid from the milk container. Rinse the milk container under the tap. Fill the milk container with COLD water up to the latte macchiato level indication. Replace the lid on the milk container and place the milk container unit back into the appliance. Place an empty cup on the drip tray. Press the clean button. The milk container unit is flushed with hot water and steam. Remove the milk container lid from the milk container. Open the milk container lid cover by pulling and slightly turning its knob. Open the milk container lid cover by pulling and slightly turning its knob. Remove the milk tube. Remove the steam inlet. Clean the milk container, the lid (incl. steam inlet) and the milk tube in hot water with some washing up liquid or in the dishwasher. Rinse the parts with fresh water after cleaning. Rinse the parts with fresh water after cleaning. Replace the steam inlet Push the milk tube firmly onto the connector of the milk container lid. Close the milk container lid cover. Place the milk container unit back into the appliance. Make sure the parts of the milk container lid are dry before you reassemble the lid!
Regular descaling prolongs the life of the machine and guarantees optimal brewing results for a long time. The Calc-Clean indicator goes on when you need to descale the machine. This happens after 1000 cups of SENSEO® black coffee or 500 cups of cappuccino, latte macchiato or caffè latte have been brewed. Fill the water reservoir up to the MAX indication with a mixture of descaler and water according to the instructions on the package of the descaler. Use a descaler based on citric acid. Take the Calc-Clean tool out of the recess in the back of the machine. Place the water reservoir back onto the machine. Lift the milk container lever upwards and push the Calc-Clean tool into the coffee spout. Push down the milk container lever. Turn on the appliance. Place the 1-cup podholder, preferably with a used coffee pod in it. This pod serves as a filter to prevent the sieve in the pod holder from getting clogged with scale residues. Close the lid. Place a bowl of 1.5 L to collect the mixture of descaler and water. Press the Calc-Clean button to start the descaling program. During the descaling program, the machine pauses a few times to remove scale deposits from the inside of the SENSEO® appliance. The descaling program takes about 35 minutes. When the descaling program is finished, the Calc-Clean indicator flashes rapidly. Do not interrupt this process. Empty the water reservoir and rinse it with fresh water. Fill the water reservoir with fresh water up to the MAX level indication and place it back onto the appliance. Press the Calc-Clean button to rinse the machine with fresh water from the reservoir. Fill the water reservoir with fresh water again. Press the Calc-Clean button to rinse the machine with fresh water a second time. Remove the Calc-Clean tool from the coffee spout. Replace the calc clean tool into the recess in the back of the machine. Clean the pod holder after descaling to prevent the sieve from getting clogged. The descaling procedure is now finished and the machine is ready to brew coffee again.
Make sure the empty milk container is placed in the appliance. Place a bowl of 1,5 L on the cup tray. Remove the water reservoir. Fill the water reservoir with cold water up to the MAX indication. Place the water reservoir back onto the machine. Open the lid. Place the 1-cup  or the 2-cup  podholder in the machine (without pods). Close the lid and lock the lever. Put the plug in an earthed wall socket. Turn on the appliance. Press the 1-cup  and 2-cup  buttons briefly at the same time. The boiler fills itself with water from the water reservoir. This may take a few minutes. The machine switches off automatically when the flushing cycle ends. Note: Never interrupt the flushing cycle halfway. If you do, re-start from step 1!
